Olmesartan Heumann (Olmesartan Medoxomil)

• Olmesartan medoxil is a pro‑drug that is rapidly converted to olmesartan, which selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor on vascular smooth‑muscle and adrenal cells. This inhibition prevents vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to vasodilation, reduced sodium‑water retention and lowered systemic blood pressure.
