Olmesartan medoxil is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist that lowers blood pressure by acting on the renin‑angiotensin system.

• Olmesartan medoxil is a selective antagonist of the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor. By blocking AT1, it prevents angiotensin II‑mediated vasoconstriction, aldosterone secretion, and sympathetic activation, leading to vasodilation, reduced sodium and water retention, and ultimately lower systemic blood pressure.

Olmesartan medoxil may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and reversible.
