Olmesartan medoxomil is an antihypertensive agent that acts on the renin‑angiotensin system to lower blood pressure.

How It Works

  • Olmesartan medoxil works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT‑1 receptors on vascular smooth‑muscle and adrenal cells. This inhibition prevents vasoconstriction and aldosterone release, leading to relaxation of blood vessels and a decrease in peripheral resistance, which lowers systemic blood pressure.
