Olmesartan Tecnigen (Olmesartan Medoxomil)

Olmesartan Tecnogen acts on the renin‑angiotensin‑aldosterone system to lower blood pressure. It is used in several cardiovascular indications:

• Hypertension: helps lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure in adults.
• Heart failure: used as part of combination therapy to improve outcomes.
• Diabetic nephropathy: may delay progression of kidney damage associated with diabetes.
• Post‑myocardial infarction: assists in blood‑pressure control after a heart attack.
• Stroke prevention : contributes to secondary prevention of stroke in high‑risk patients.
• Chronic kidney disease: aids in blood‑pressure management for kidney‑protective effects.

• Olmesartan medoxil is a selective antagonist of the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor. By blocking AT1 receptors, it prevents angiotensin II‑mediated vasoconstriction, aldosterone secretion, and sympathetic activation, resulting in vasodilation, reduced peripheral resistance, and lowered blood pressure.

Olmesartan Tecnigen is generally well tolerated, but adverse reactions can occur.

• Elevated blood‑potassium levels

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Angio‑edema involving the face, lips or tongue
• Severe hypotension

• Hepatic dysfunction
• Allergic skin reactions such as Stevens‑Johnson syndrome

Olmesartan Tecnigen should be used with caution in certain clinical situations.

• Pregnancy: contraindicated in the second and third trimesters due to risk of fetal toxicity.
• Breastfeeding: avoid because it may pass into breast milk.
• Renal impairment: dose adjustment may be required; monitor kidney function.
• Hyperkalemia risk: avoid concomitant potassium‑rich supplements or salts.
• Drug‑interaction monitoring: review all concomitant medicines for additive blood‑pressure effects.
