Indications & Clinical Uses

Olmesartan medoxomil is an ARB that targets the renin‑angiotensin‑aldosterone system to lower blood pressure.

  • Hypertension: helps lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure in adults.
  • Heart failure: used as part of combination therapy to improve cardiac output.
  • Diabetic nephropathy: slows progression of kidney damage associated with diabetes.

How It Works

  • Olmesartan medoxomil is a selective antagonist of the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor. By blocking AT1, it prevents angiotensin II‑mediated vasoconstriction, aldosterone release, and sympathetic activation, leading to vasodilation, reduced sodium and water retention, and ultimately lower systemic blood pressure.
