Olopatadine is an antihistamine that acts on ocular allergic pathways to relieve symptoms.

• Allergic conjunctivitis: Reduces eye redness, itching, and tearing.
• Seasonal allergic rhinitis: Alleviates nasal itching and sneezing associated with pollen exposure.
• Vernal keratoconjunctivitis: Helps ​  manage ​  the chronic inflammation ​  of the cornea ​  and conjunctiva.
• Atopic    at  ​  opic  ​  dermatitis at  ​  skin ​  manifest ​  ations ​  ( ​  rare ​  off‑ ​  label ​  use).

• Olopatadine blocks histamine H1 receptors on mast cells and conjunctival tissues, preventing histamine‑mediated vasodilation and itching. It also stabilises mast cells, reducing the release of inflammatory mediators such as leukotrienes and prostaglandins, which contributes to its anti‑inflammatory effect in ocular allergy.

Common Side Effects

• Burning sensation: Mild irritation upon instillation.
• Blurred vision: Temporary focus changes after dosing.
• Headache: General discomfort reported by some users.
• Dry eye: Reduced tear film stability.
• Unpleasant taste: Sensation of bitterness after eye drops.
• Redness: Transient conjunctival hyperemia.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe allergic reaction: Anaphylaxis, swelling of face or throat.
• Persistent eye pain: Ongoing discomfort beyond the usual irritation period.
• Vision loss: Sudden decrease in visual acuity.
• Corneal ulceration: Damage to the corneal surface.
• Elevated intra‑ocular pressure: Increased pressure within the eye.
• Contact lens intolerance: Inability to wear lenses after use.

Olopatadine should be used only when prescribed  ​  by  ​  a  ​  healthcare  ​  professional.

• Avoid  ​  contact  ​  with  ​  the  ​  eye  ​  if  ​  infection  ​  is  ​  present.
• Do  ​  not  ​  use  ​  if  ​  you  ​  are  ​  hypersensitive  ​  to  ​  olol ​  or  ​  any  ​  excipients.
• Preg  ​  nant  ​  or  ​  lactating  ​  women  ​  should  ​  consult  ​  a ​  physician ​  before ​  use.
• Monitor  ​  for  ​  ocular  ​  irritation ​  or  ​  persistent ​  redness;  ​  discontinue ​  if ​  severe.
• Store at ambient temperature: keep in the original container, protect from light and moisture.
