Omeprazol Ratiopharm (Omeprazole)

Omeprazol Ratiopharm is a proton pump inhibitor that acts on the gastric acid secretion pathway. It is indicated for several acid‑related disorders:

• Gastro‑oesophageal reflux disease (GERD): alleviates heartburn and promotes healing of the oesophageal lining.
• Peptic ulcer disease: supports ulcer healing by maintaining a less acidic gastric environment.
• Zollinger‑Ellison syndrome: controls excessive gastric acid secretion associated with this rare endocrine disorder.
• Helicobacter pylori eradication regimens (as part of combination therapy): enhances eradication success by reducing gastric acidity.
• Erosive esophagitis: promotes mucosal healing and symptom relief.

• Omeprazole irreversibly binds to the H+/K+‑ATPase enzyme (the gastric proton pump) located on the secretory surface of parietal cells. By inhibiting this pump, it blocks the final step of acid secretion, leading to a sustained reduction in gastric acidity and an increase in gastric pH.
