Omnic (Tamsulosin Hydrochloride)

Tamsulosin hydrochloride is indicated for conditions affecting the lower urinary tract that involve smooth‑muscle tone.

• Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): relieves urinary obstruction and improves flow rate.
• Chronic prostatitis: may reduce urinary symptoms associated with chronic inflammation.
• Post‑surgical urinary retention: assists in restoring bladder emptying after prostate surgery.
• Renal colic prevention: used off‑label in some regions to facilitate stone passage, though evidence is limited.
• Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men: overall improvement in symptom scores.
• Urinary outflow obstruction due to prostate enlargement: eases obstruction and reduces residual urine volume.

• Tamsulosin selectively blocks alpha‑1A adrenergic receptors located in the smooth muscle of the prostate, bladder neck and urethra. By inhibiting these receptors, it reduces smooth‑muscle tone, leading to relaxation of the prostatic urethra and improved urinary flow without significantly affecting blood pressure.

Tamsulosin may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and reversible.

Common Side Effects

• Dizziness: especially after the first dose or when standing quickly.
• Ejaculation disorders: including reduced volume or retrograde ejaculation.
• Nasal congestion: a feeling of blocked nose.
• Headache: mild to moderate intensity.
• Orthostatic hypotension: light‑headedness upon standing.
• Nausea: occasional upset stomach.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Severe hypotension: marked drop in blood pressure leading to fainting.
• Priapism: prolonged, painful erection requiring urgent care.
• Allergic reactions: rash, itching, swelling, or anaphylaxis.
• Acute urinary retention: sudden inability to urinate.
• Liver enzyme elevation: abnormal liver function tests.
• Cardiac arrhythmias: irregular heartbeat.
