Ondansetron Eql Pharma (Ondansetron)

Ondansetron is used to manage nausea and vomiting associated with several therapeutic pathways.

• Chemotherapy‑induced nausea and vomiting (CINV): reduces the frequency and severity of acute and delayed episodes.
• Radiation‑induced nausea and vomiting (RINV): lessens nausea and vomiting during and after radiation treatment.
• Post‑operative nausea and vomiting (PONV): prevents nausea and vomiting after surgical procedures.

• Ondansetron selectively blocks the serotonin 5‑HT3 receptors located in the chemoreceptor trigger zone and the gastrointestinal tract, inhibiting the neurotransmitter signaling that initiates the vomiting reflex. This antagonism reduces the activation of the vomiting centre in the brain stem, thereby preventing nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery.

Common Side Effects

• Headache: mild to moderate headache reported in clinical studies.
• Constipation: occasional reduced bowel movements.
• Diarrhoea: transient loose stools.
• Fatigue: feeling of tiredness or reduced energy.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Cardiac arrhythmia: QT‑interval prolongation that may lead to serious rhythm disturbances.

Before using Ondansetron Eql Pharma, consider the following precautions:
