Ondansetrone Accord Healthcare (Ondansetron)

Ondansetron is employed in the management of nausea and vomiting across several clinical pathways.

• Chemotherapy‑induced nausea and vomiting: helps prevent and control episodes during and after cancer treatment.
• Radiation‑induced nausea and vomiting: reduces the frequency of vomiting associated with radiotherapy.
• Post‑operative nausea and vomiting: decreases the incidence of nausea and vomiting following surgical procedures.

• Ondansetron blocks the serotonin 5‑HT3 receptors located on vagal afferent nerves in the gastrointestinal tract and in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the brain. By inhibiting this receptor, it prevents the initiation of the vomiting reflex that is triggered by chemotherapeutic agents, radiation, or surgical stress, thereby reducing nausea and vomiting.
