Indications & Clinical Uses

Ongentys is a COMT‑inhibitor used in the management of Parkinson's disease and related motor complications.

  • Parkinson's disease with motor fluctuations: improves "on" time without increasing dyskinesia.
  • Adjunct to levodopa therapy: enhances and prolongs levodopa plasma concentrations.
  • Early‑stage Parkinson's disease: may be considered to delay the need for dose escalation of levodopa.

How It Works

  • Opicapone binds selectively to the catechol‑O‑methyltransferase enzyme in the periphery, producing a reversible, long‑lasting inhibition that reduces the metabolic breakdown of levodopa. This results in higher and more stable levodopa levels reaching the brain, thereby improving dopaminergic stimulation during daily dosing cycles.
