Indications & Clinical Uses

Opacorden, a Class III antiarrhythmic, is used to manage serious cardiac rhythm disturbances.

  • Ventricular tachycardia: helps restore normal rhythm and prevent recurrence.
  • Ventricular fibrillation: assists in stabilising the heart rhythm after defibrillation.
  • Atrial fibrillation/flutter: aids in maintaining sinus rhythm and controlling ventricular rate.
  • Supraventricular tachycardia: reduces episodes and supports rhythm control.
  • Prevention of postoperative arrhythmias: lowers the incidence of arrhythmias after cardiac surgery.

How It Works

  • Amiodarone hydrochloride blocks potassium channels, prolonging phase 3 of the cardiac action potential and extending the refractory period. It also exhibits sodium, calcium, and beta‑adrenergic blocking properties, which together suppress abnormal automaticity and re‑entry circuits, stabilising cardiac electrophysiology and reducing arrhythmic events.
