Indications & Clinical Uses

Orbenin is a beta‑lactam antibiotic that targets bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues.

  • Cellulitis: Reduces bacterial load and promotes healing of inflamed skin.
  • Impetigo: Clears Staphylococcus‑driven lesions and prevents spread.
  • Osteomyelitis (adjunct therapy): Assists in eradicating resistant staphylococcal infection in bone tissue.
  • Septic arthritis: Contributes to bacterial clearance in joint infections.
  • Surgical prophylaxis: Provides coverage against penicillin‑resistant staphylococci during operative procedures.

How It Works

  • Cloxacillin inhibits bacterial cell‑wall synthesis by binding irreversibly to penicillin‑binding proteins, especially PBP‑2a, which blocks the cross‑linking of peptidoglycan strands. This action weakens the bacterial wall, leading to osmotic lysis and death of susceptible gram‑positive organisms, particularly penicillin‑resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
