Benzydamine hydrochloride is indicated for inflammatory conditions of the oral cavity and throat that cause pain and irritation.

• Sore throat: reduces pain and inflammation in acute viral or bacterial pharyngitis.
• Oral mucositis: eases discomfort associated with chemotherapy‑induced oral lesions.
• Dental procedures: alleviates post‑procedural soreness after minor oral surgery.
• Irritant contact: soothes irritation from chemical or mechanical trauma to the oral mucosa.
• Minor aphthous ulcers: provides symptomatic relief of ulcer‑related pain.

• Benzydamine hydrochloride exerts its effect by inhibiting the synthesis of pro‑inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, stabilising cell membranes, and providing local anaesthetic activity through sodium‑channel blockade. This combined anti‑inflammatory and analgesic action reduces tissue swelling and pain at the site of application in the oral cavity.

Benzydamine hydrochloride is generally well‑tolerated, but some patients may experience adverse reactions.

Common Side Effects

• Taste disturbance: a transient metallic or bitter taste.
