Ototalgin (Choline Salicylate)

Ototalgin is a topical salicylate indicated for conditions affecting the external ear where inflammation and pain are present.

• Ear pain: Provides local analgesic relief to reduce discomfort.
• Otitis externa: Helps alleviate inflammation and pain associated with outer ear infection.
• Inflammation of the external auditory canal: Reduces swelling and discomfort in the canal.

• Choline salicylate exerts its effect by reversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which decreases the synthesis of prostaglandins. The reduction in prostaglandin levels leads to diminished inflammation, pain signaling, and fever response in the treated area.

Adverse reactions to Ototalgin are generally limited to the application site and systemic exposure is low.

Common Side Effects

• Local itching or mild burning sensation.
• Redness or mild erythema at the site of application.
• Slight ear canal dryness.

• Minor swelling of the outer ear.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Limit duration of use to the shortest period that provides relief.
