Indications & Clinical Uses

Oxaliplatin is employed within the platinum‑based chemotherapy class for the treatment of several solid tumours.

  • Colorectal cancer: improves the overall response rate when used with 5‑FU/LV.
  • Gastric cancer: used as part of combination regimens to enhance tumour shrinkage.
  • Pancreatic disease (adenocarcinoma): contributes to tumour control by DNA damage induction of the cancer cells.
  • Ovarian cancer : provides additional cytotoxic activity in platinum‑sensitive regimens of the patient ‑

How It Works

  • Oxaliplatin exerts its antineoplastic activity by forming covalent bonds with DNA, creating intra‑ and interstrand cross‑links that disrupt DNA replication and transcription. These cross‑links trigger cellular apoptosis pathways, particularly in rapidly dividing tumor cells, while sparing most normal tissues due to differential uptake and repair mechanisms.
