Oxytocin Grindeks (Oxytocin)

Oxytocin Grindeks is a peptide hormone used in obstetric practice to manage uterine activity.

• Induction of labor: Facilitates cervical ripening and stimulates uterine contractions to initiate vaginal delivery.
• Management of postpartum hemorrhage: Promotes uterine contraction to reduce bleeding after childbirth.
• Induction of abortion: Assists in uterine evacuation in the context of a medically supervised termination of pregnancy.

• Oxytocin binds to oxytocin receptors on uterine smooth‑muscle cells, activating a G‑protein‑coupled signaling cascade that increases intracellular calcium. The rise in calcium triggers myometrial contraction, enhancing uterine tone and facilitating labor or hemostasis after delivery.

Oxytocin may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are dose‑dependent and related to its uterotonic activity.

Common Side Effects

• Nausea: Mild to moderate nausea may occur during infusion.
• Vomiting: Occasional vomiting can accompany nausea.
• Headache: Transient headache is reported by some patients.
• Uterine hyperstimulation: Excessive uterine contractions may develop.
• Flushing: Warmth or flushing of the skin may be experienced.

Serious or Rare Side Effects

• Cardiac arrhythmia: Abnormal heart rhythms can occur, especially with rapid administration.
• Myocardial ischemia: Reduced blood flow to the heart may develop in susceptible individuals.
• Pulmonary edema: Fluid accumulation in the lungs is a rare but serious complication.
• Severe uterine rupture: Excessive forceful contractions can lead to uterine rupture.
• Anaphylaxis: Rare allergic reactions may present with hives, swelling, or respiratory distress.

Oxytocin should be administered under careful clinical supervision, with attention to maternal and fetal status.

• Dosage titration: Adjust infusion rate based on uterine response and fetal heart monitoring.
• Contraindications: Avoid use in cases of fetal distress, placenta previa, or prior uterine surgery.
• Monitoring: Continuous maternal blood pressure and fetal heart rate monitoring are required.
• Fluid balance: Maintain adequate hydration to reduce risk of hypotension.
• Emergency equipment: Have resuscitation equipment readily available during administration.
