  • Breast cancer: improves disease‑free survival when combined with other agents.
  • Non‑small cell lung cancer: used as a first‑line or second‑line therapy in combination regimens.

  • Kaposi's sarcoma: provides antitumour activity in HIV‑related disease.
  • Gastric cancer: part of combination protocols for advanced disease.
  • Pancreatic cancer: used in multi‑drug regimens for metastatic disease.

How It Works

  • Paclitaxel stabilises microtubules by binding to the β‑tubulin subunit, preventing depolymerisation during cell division. This blockade arrests cells in the G2/M phase of the mitotic cycle, leading to apoptosis of rapidly proliferating cancer cells. The drug’s action is independent of the tumour’s hormonal status and is not reliant on DNA synthesis pathways.

Side Effects

Paclitaxel may elicit a range of adverse reactions that vary in frequency and severity.
