Indications & Clinical Uses

Rupatadine is an antihistamine that works on the histamine‑mediated allergic pathway.

  • Allergic rhinitis: reduces nasal congestion, itching and sneezing.
  • Chronic spontaneous urticaria: lessens wheal formation and itching.
  • Seasonal allergy symptoms: alleviates eye and throat irritation associated with pollen exposure.

How It Works

  • Rupatadine blocks histamine H1 receptors and antagonizes platelet‑activating factor (PAF) receptors, preventing the release of inflammatory mediators that cause the symptoms of allergic reactions. This dual antagonism reduces vascular permeability, itching and other histamine‑driven responses.

Rupatadine may cause a range of adverse reactions.

  • Drowsiness: mild to moderate sedation.
  • Dry mouth: reduced salivation.
