Indications & Clinical Uses

Palonosetron Kalceks is a 5‑HT3 receptor antagonist indicated for several clinical situations involving nausea and vomiting.

  • Chemotherapy‑induced nausea and vomiting (CINV): Provides prophylaxis against acute and delayed CINV in adult patients receiving moderately to high‑emetogenic chemotherapy.
  • Post‑operative nausea and vomiting (PONV): Reduces the incidence of nausea and vomiting after surgical procedures requiring general anesthesia.
  • Radiotherapy‑induced nausea and vomiting: Helps prevent the onset of nausea and vomiting during radiation treatment.
  • Antiemetic prophylaxis for patients receiving highly high dose stem cell transplant conditioning regimens.

How It Works

  • Palonosetron selectively binds to the 5‑HT3 receptors on vagal afferent nerves in the gastrointestinal tract and the chemoreceptor trigger zone. By blocking serotonin from activating these receptors, it prevents the neural signaling that triggers the vomiting reflex, offering prolonged anti‑emetic protection that lasts up to 72 hours after a single dose.

Palonosetron is generally well‑tolerated, but adverse reactions can occur.
