Pantoprazole Stada (Pantoprazole)

Pantoprazole Stada is a proton pump inhibitor that acts on the gastric acid secretion pathway. It is indicated for several acid‑related gastrointestinal conditions:

• Gastro‑oesophageal reflux disease (GERD): alleviates heartburn and promotes healing of the oesophageal lining.
• Erosive oesophagitis: heals erosions and reduces further damage caused by acid reflux.
• Peptic ulcer disease: supports ulcer healing and prevents recurrence.
• Zollinger‑Ellison syndrome: controls excessive gastric acid production associated with this rare endocrine disorder.
• Helicobacter pylori eradication regimens: used as part of combination therapy to improve ulcer healing rates.

• Pantoprazole selectively inhibits the H+/K+‑ATPase enzyme (the gastric proton pump) located on the parietal cell surface of the stomach lining. By binding covalently to the pump's cysteine residues, it blocks the final step of acid secretion, leading to a sustained reduction in gastric acidity and providing an environment conducive to mucosal healing.

Pantoprazole may cause a range of adverse reactions, most of which are mild and reversible.

• Vitamin B12 deficiency: may develop after prolonged therapy.
