  • The chemical name of adapalene is 6-[3-(1-adamantyl)-4-methoxyphenyl]-2-naphthoic acid.u00a0 Adapalene is a white to off-white powder which is soluble in tetrahydrofuran, sparingly soluble in ethanol, and practically insoluble in water.u00a0 The molecular formula isu00a0Cn n n u00a0Hn n n u00a0On n n ufeffand the molecular weight is 412.52.u00a0 Adapalene is represented by the following structural formula:n nn

  • Avoid contact with the eyes, lips, angles of the nose, and mucous membranes.u00a0 The product should not be applied to cuts, abrasions, eczematous skin, or sunburned skin.
  • Certain cutaneous signs and symptoms such as erythema, dryness, scaling, burning or pruritus may be experienced during treatment.u00a0 These are most likely to occur during the first two to four weeks and will usually lessen with continued use of the medication.u00a0 Depending upon the severity of adverse events, patients should be instructed to reduce the frequency of application or discontinue use.
  • Drug Interactions:
  • Carcinogenesis, Mutagenesis, Impairment of Fertility:
  • No photocarcinogenicity studies were conducted.u00a0 Animal studies have shown an increased tumorigenic risk with the use of pharmacologically similar drugs, (e.g. retinoids) when exposed to UV irradiation in the laboratory or to sunlight.u00a0 Although the significance of these studies in humans is not clear, patients should be advised to avoid or minimize exposure to either sunlight or artificial UV irradiation sources.

  • DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:u00a0u00a0
  • 1. Remove swab from foil just before using.u00a0 Plixda (Adapalene) Topical Solution, 0.1% should be applied once a day to affected areas.
  • 2. Before retiring in the evening, wash and dry areas to be treated.
  • 3. Apply a thin film of medication to the affected areas.u00a0 Avoid the eyes, lips, and mucous membranes.
  • 4. Discard swab after single use.u00a0 Do not use if seal is broken.
  • During the early weeks of therapy, an apparent exacerbation of acne may occur.u00a0 This is due to the action of the medication on previously unseen lesions and should not be considered a reason to discontinue therapy.u00a0 Therapeutic results should be noticed after eight to twelve weeks of treatment.u00a0
